“Lebanon (in Arabic: لبنان / lubnān), in long form the Lebanese Republic (in Arabic: الجمهورية اللبنانية / al-jumhūriyya al-lubnāniyya), is a state in the Near East. Largely mountainous, it shares borders with Syria to the north and east 376 km, Israel south 79 km and Cyprus west, off its 220 km coastline in the Levantine Basin (eastern part of the Mediterranean Sea).
